SR 01-05-1998**ITEM 3.8.** .~y of iver MEMORANDUM TO: FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: Mayor and City Council Sandra Thackeray, City Clerk January 5, 1998 Bereavement Policy Amendment On June 3, 1996, the City Council adopted a bereavement policy which allowed the city to contribute $25.00 in the event of the death of a city employee or immediate family member of an employee. After reviewing the pohcy, staff is requesting council to increase the $25.00 to $50.00. COUNCIL ACTION: If the council concurs with this request, a motion to increase the amount would be appropriate. If the council wishes to discuss this issue, it should be taken off of the consent agenda for discussion. For your information .............................. The City will be purchasing a gas grill which will be located outside of the employee lunch room. The $25.99 $50.00 can be used for flowers, cash or memorial. City employee shall include an employee of any department of the city and whose wage is paid by the City of Elk River. 3. Immediate family shall include spouse, children, parents and brothers and sisters. Upon the death of an employee or an employee's immediate family member, the employee should notify the City Clerk.
