MEMORANDUM
Mayor and City Council
FROM:
DATE:
Patrick D. Klaers, City Adm~rator
January 20, 1998
SUBJECT:
Consider Old Northbound Shelving and
Cooler Bids and Update on 1/31/98 Open
House
In December, the city advertised in the newsletter for the private liquor
industry and in The Municipal (the newsletter for municipal liquor stores)
for bids to purchase the shelving and coolers at the old Northbound Liquor
Store. Bids were due by January 9, 1998. The city received two bids in the
amount of $3,895.00 and $4,457.00, which is fairly competitive. I was
looking for a higher bid, but in a conversation with the low or unsuccessful
bidder, it was indicated to staff that the city received a very good bid for our
shelving and cooler.
It is recommended that the City Council award the old Northbound Liquor
Store cooler and shelving bid to Chris Ruzicka in the amount of $4,457.00.
These bids are attached for your review. The goal is to have the shelving and
coolers removed from the old Northbound store within a month.
An open house for the new Northbound Liquor Store is scheduled for
Saturday, January 31, 1998. The city will be offering some shot glasses and
bottle openers as free "give-aways" to the customers on this Saturday.
Additionally, other vendors will be offering some tokens to distribute to
customers during the open house. Wine and beer tasting will be available
throughout the store. A drawing for free gifts will be scheduled at 8:00 p.m.
Customers (21 and older) can sign up for the drawing throughout the week of
January 26, and need not be present to win. The drawings will be for $500 in
Chamber dollars and $500 in Northbound gift certificates. The break-down
for the Chamber dollars will be as follows:
· One $200
· One $100
· Two $50
· Four $25
13065 Orono Parkway · P.O. Box 490 · Elk River, MN 55330 ° TDD & Phone: (612) 441-7420 · Fax: (612) 441-7425
The break-down for the liquor store gift certificates will be as follows:
· Two $75
· Four $50
· Six $25
No formal presentation of sorts is planned and it is more/less a day long
event with some free give-aways, beer and wine tasting (with cheese and
crackers), and drawings for certificates. Ads in the local paper will be
appearing shortly inviting the public to attend.
