Equipment Purchases for 1998
A sign printer was identified in the street budget last year, but we did not
purchase this piece of equipment due to overall budget concerns. This piece
of equipment is needed to improve our efficiency in getting signs, and in the
long run will save the city money. I would like to use $3,400 of the street
equipment reserves to purchase this item in 1998. The street equipment
reserve has a balance of approximately $45,000.
My staff has been actively searching for used pick up trucks that were
identified in the 1998 equipment certificate budget, but the recent
snowstorms have slowed their progress. I plan to have quotes ready (as a
handout) for Council approval at Tuesday's meeting.

SUBJECT: Purchase of Used Pick Ups for the
Street Department
The 1998 equipment certificate budget identifies $31,650 for the purchase of
3 used pick up trucks. Members of the Street Department have located,
examined and would recommend the following trucks for consideration:
Unit 1
- 1991, Chevrolet, C2500
- 3/4 Ton
- 2 Wheel Drive
- Topper
- 54,000 Miles
$9,675.00
Unit 2
- 1988, Ford, F250
- 3/4 Ton
- 4 Wheel Drive
- 52,000 Miles
$10,000.00
Unit 3
- 1990, Chevrolet, K-3500
- 1 Ton
- 4 Wheel Drive
- 46,000 Miles
$12,800.00
These three vehicles are all priced at or near the top of the NADA price
guide, but they are all very clean and low mileage trucks. The purchase price
totals $32,475.00 and the sales tax will add another $2,111.00. I would ask
that the City Council authorize this purchase and take the remaining
$2,936.00 from the Street Department equipment reserve.
