1. Call Meetingto Order
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the meeting of the Glk River Public Library Board was
called to order at 6:27 p.m. by Board Chair Jayne Dietz.
It was determined a quorum was present
2. Consider September 27, 201 1 Library Board Agenda.
Kathleen Tracy MOVED AND Nicole Novotny SECONDED TO APPROVE THE
AGENDA AS PRESENTED. MOTION PASSED 4-0.
3. Consider Secretary's Report
Nicole Novtny MOVED AND Kathleen Tracy SECONDED TO APPROVE THE
MEETING MINUTES FROM THE JULY 26, 2011 MEETING AS PRESENTED.
MOTION PASSED 4-0.
4. Consider September 27, 201 1 Treasurer's Report
Aaron Ziegler MOVED AND Kathleen Tracy SECONDED TO APPROVE THE
TREASURER'S REPORT AND FINANCIALS FROM THE AUGUST MONTH TO
DATE AND YEAR TO DATE FINANCIALS AS PRESENTED. MOTION PASSED 4-0.
5. Librarian's Report- Mick Stoffers.
The Board acknowledged the Librarian's report.
Old Business
a. Sprinkler System -Great Northern landscape has finished the installation of the
sprinkler system as per the 2011 budget; it includes the front section of the library
and the boulevard. Seeding will begin this fall and will come to about $800.
b. Doors -New weather stripping is being installed on the doors to prevent the rain
from coming in. [t is felt this will solve the problem.
c. Prairie Grass -Contacted Dave Anderson about restoration of the Prairie Grass by the
Butterfly Gardens
d. Rules of Behavior - e-mailed Brandi suggestions from board

New Business
e. Summer Reading Program Numbers:
i. 53 Babies started the program and 19 finished
ii. 730 (3 - 12 year olds) started the program and 203 finished
iii. 39 teens started the program 500+ coupons were returned
iv. Mick Stoffers noted that these numbers are typical of the Summer Reading
Program in previous years.
v. An anonymous donor donated $1,000.00 with the stipulation that it be used to
help get books in the hands of children. It was used to provide books as prizes
for the summer reading program. Those who received a book signed a card
for the donor.
f Friends of the Elk River Library is discussion the possibility of sponsoring another
children's reading program with Mick. Conversations are continuing.
g. Nick Zerwas provided an update on funds available From the Elk River Economic
Development Authority that was used for a branding study for Elk River. The Study
was provided by ChandlerThinks, aconsultancy Firm out of Nashville, TN. Elk
River's new branding slogan is "Powered by Nature." ChandlerThinks provided a
130 page report with recommendations for how to implement the branding process.
Most of the recommendations are in ways to use the City's existing marketing
budgets more effectively. Nick offered to have the City's implementation manager
for the branding process speak to the Library Board in a future meeting about ways
the Library could participate in the implementation of the new Brand. Mick took an
action to reach out to the City's branding implementation manager to see if he would
present to the Board in a future meeting.
6. ~ournment.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:04 p.m. Next regularly scheduled
meeting will be held on November 22, 201 1.
