6.5. SR 12-12-2011Item # 6.5. City of Elk. ,~, MEMORANDUM River TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Tim Simon, Finance Director DATE: December 12, 201 I SUBJECT: Credit Card Update As part of the 2011 Action Steps, goal A7 (explore and develop new programs and services) included "expand ability to accept alternative forms of payment (credit cards, online payments)." Over the past couple of years, the city has been getting more requests to use credit cards for items such as building permits, miscellaneous licenses, lockout tickets etc. We currently accept credit cards for recreation programs, liquor stores sales, and at Pinewood. A committee was formed representing various city departments that currently do not take credit cards to see what options exist, review fees, and make a recommendation. I will display on the overhead a few of the cities that use a system called I~ev Trak. This will essentially be creating aweb-store with various options. Approximately 48 Minnesota cities currently use I~ev Trak. The 2012 budget includes $5,000 for credit card fees for these types of transactions. Based on the type of permits/licenses/tickets used, we feel that this should be sufficient but staff will re-evaluate annually. rerl;REe rr N:\Public Bodies\City Council\Council RCA\Agenda Packet\12-12-2011\creditcardmemo.docx ~~~
