SUBJECT: Major Park Use -Use of Orono Park and Handke Stadium for
the Shiver Elk River Winter Festival
Re uest
The Elk River Chamber of Commerce has requested the use of Orono Park on Saturday,
February 25th to hold a community winter festival fundraiser event. The rental period
would run from approximately 8:00 a.m to 6:00 p.m The group plans to hold a variety of
activities such as a polar bear plunge, chili cook off, and a hockey tournament at Handke.
The group will place tents at Orono Park.
Information for your consideration
• This is a resident group.
• Proceeds from the event will be donated to local charities.
Staff Recommendations
Event be approved with the following guidelines:
• All facility rental fees be waived.
• The Parks and Recreation Department provide trash cans for the event.
• The group will cover the cost of any needed additional portable toilets.
• The group will coordinate with necessary agencies to address safety aspects relating
to the polar bear plunge.
• The group will coordinate with the Health Department regarding any food serving
guidelines.
• The group will coordinate with the Parks and Recreation Department on logistic
items such as tent locations.
