CERT was established to develop and train citizens for emergency prepazedness and response in the event of a disaster. A tour of our Power Plant was provided with a brief history on the plant and ERMU. Steve Ziemer, our Plant Operator / Mechanic, did an excellent job conducting the plant tour and answering questions. It goes without saying; he has also done an excellent job maintaining our plant over the past decade. The power plant is an important facility because of its "black start" capabilities. After the tour, Michael Thiry, a Foreperson in the electric department, gave a presentation on electric safety. Wade Lovelette, our Technical Services Superintendent, coordinated and help with the tour and training. This was a great opportunity for ERMU to contribute back to our community and staff did a great job. Attached is a thank you from Dave Pikal the Assistant Director of Sherburne County Emergency Services. We aze in the process of registering with the Economic Development Association of Minnesota (EDAM). This will be an opportunity to work with the City to promote and mazket Elk River and ERMU. In late 2011, the Commission asked staff to reseazch restrictions and regulations for signage on the Power Plant. The only restriction would be size. The signage would be limited to 96 squaze feet. The new interface that will allow customers to obtain their account balance information, view bills, and make and schedule payments online, will be introduced to customers with Januazy's billing. Inventory for the electric department (with the exception of the wire) was done on December 20s', 2011; for the water department January 3`d, 2012; and for the security department January 5~', 2012. All went well and an auditor was on site for a short duration of the electric count. The preliminary audit fieldwork will be Monday, January 9a' with Mark Ebensteiner and Andy Berg on site for the day. We had placed the underground wire earlier in the year and are now working on projects that can be done when the ground is frozen. • Continue helping the street department trim trees in some developments. • Started tree trimming ourselves. • Completed the inventory count and are working with office to make sure everything is correct. • I attended the technical and operations conference that MMUA puts on. A few of the classes I attended were the new product trade show, weather technology, developing effective standard operating procedures and accident review for the year. It was a very good conference. Meter Techs assisted the Line Department in changing out a substation feeder re-closer and controller. The controller had to be sent back because of a malfunction and the re-closer had to be sent back because of internal loose parts. • Staff is doing home energy audits. • The power plant staff did the monthly run of the generators. Engines ran well. We are still waiting for Ex-Line to come and help our staff repair the fuel problem on Engine #3. • I attended the Technical & Operations Conference last month. Besides attending the new products trade show, I learned about what is happening with Renewable energy, getting a better score next time on the RP3 report, and then a little bit on smart grid.
