City Council is to approve the purchase of a 2012 Rokon Trail Breaker with accessories and attachments.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
The Park and Recreation Department is seeking authorization to purchase a 2012 Rokon Trail Breaker to
be used to perform general park maintenance at Hillside Park. This piece of equipment will be a new
addition to the park maintenance fleet.
The item was included in the 2012 equipment replacement fund, which was approved by the Ciry
Council.
Staff obtained multiple quotes and the Rokon with attachments and accessories is in the amount of
$9,530.36, including sales tax.
The Rokon Trail Breaker will be used weekly for trail maintenance at Hillside Park. The Trail Breaker is
built specifically for use on narrow trails, such as mountain bike trails, where an ATV cannot pass
through. It will also be used as a transportation vehicle and a tow vehicle to allow for a greater amount of
work to be done in shorter period of time. The attachments will save time and manual effort, for
example, the single track trailer can haul dirt, rocks, lumber, tools, and other needed supplies to the job
site. The log skidder improves the capability to pull deadfall and/or trees out of heavily forested areas
damaged by storms.
It is thought that with the addition of the Rokon and its capabilities, much of the difficult manual work
will be done with the machine, easing the efforts of volunteers.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
This item is budgeted in the 2012 equipment replacement fund fox $9,400.00. The total cost of the
Rokon with accessories and attachments is $9,530.36. The difference will be made up with the remaining
2012 park equipment purchases.
