MEMORANDUM
TO: Heritage Preservation Commission
FROM: Rebecca Haug, Environmental Administrator
DATE: January 12, 2012
SUBJECT: Meeting Reminder-January 19, 2012
This is to remind you of our upcoming meeting on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at G:00 p.m. at the Elk River City
Hall in the Uppertown Conference Room. Please see the attached agenda and minutes.
STAFF UPDATES
PLANNING COMMISSION ITEMS
There are no Planning Commission Items for the HPC to review for the February meeting.
DOWTOWN TASK FORCE UPDATE
The next Downtown Task Force meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 23, 2012.
ORAL HISTORY UPDATE
Please see the attached list that was created in early 2011. Please bring with you any other names that should be
added to the list and names of people who have already been interviewed.
BAILEY POINT
The City is still in the process of purchasing this property. Staff will be working on a giant application to the
Minnesota Historical Society (MHS) to purchase Interpretive Signs to be placed along the future trail on the
property. Staff is looking for assistance in writing information for the signs and determining how many signs
should be purchased. Please bring some ideas with you.
2012 GOALS
The HPC goals for 2010-2012 identify working on continuing surveys of the older parts of Elk River and working
on creating a Historic Neighborhood District as well as continuing to educate the residents about the history of Elk
River. Staff is looking for ideas on how the HPC can accomplish these goals in 2012.
If you have any questions or are unable to attend, please call me at (763) 635-1068. Thank you and I look forward
to seeing you on January 19, 2012.
