The Parks and Recreation Department would like to relocate the Farmers Market from its current
location in the Westbound Liquor Store parking lot to the newly developed parking area located 716 and
720 Main Street.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
The Bank of Elk River provides financial support for several key Elk River Community events such as
the Farmers Market and the Riverfront Concert series. The partnership between The Bank of Elk River
and the City of Elk River's Parks and Recreation Department has had over the past few years has brought
the Elk River communitytogether to share family fun activities that enhance the quality of life in Elk
River.
In seeking the 2012 sponsorship, The Bank of Elk River discussed additional benefits to the past
sponsorship arrangement. While adding minimal cost to the City, these additional benefits would add
value to the sponsorship and would enhance the collaborative efforts to benefit the community.
C-ne of the additional benefit requests includes relocating the Farmers Market to a downtown location
with the goal of attracting more residents to the amenities Elk River's historic downtown has to offer.
Staff analyzed several potential locations and determined that the new parking area located at 716 and 720
Main Street would be the most effective location for the Farmers Market. Reasons this location is the
most desirable include:
• Adequate parking for patrons
• Visibility to Main Street creating connectivity to Downtown
• Safety aspects for parking access and patron shopping
The Farmers Market would be held one day per week in the afternoon to early evening. Staff would
coordinate the specific day and time to compliment other activities occurring in downtown such as the
Riverfront Concert Series.
