ACTION REQUESTED
Approve the promotion of Dennis Walker to the ice arena maintenance supervisor position .effective
February 22, 2012, to be paid at pay grade 6, step A.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
Ice Arena Maintenance Supervisor Jerry Davis is retiring April 30, 2012, following an extended leave that
will begin February 20. We posted internally for candidates interested in filling this position. Although I
received inquiries from others, we received a letter of interest from one employee, Dennis Walker.
Dennis Walker has worked for the Ice Arena on a part-time basis since December of 1999. In September
2011, he was hired to fill the full-time lead worker position vacated by Case Hayward's retirement.
Dennis has proven to be a dedicated and skilled employee and we are happy to be able to offer him this
promotion.
Mr. Walker will begin a six month orientation period on February 22, 2012. Although he has ice arena
refrigeration experience, during his orientation he is required to complete ice arena refrigeration training.
Mr. Walker will be eligible for a step increase following successful completion of both the training and
the orientation period.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
This is a budgeted position; however, there should be savings of approximately $8,000 due to the pay
difference between Mr. Davis' step E to Mr. Walker's step A.
