BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION In 2011, Sherburne County completed a comprehensive traffic control signal system inspection for the City or Elk River. The inspection included the review of all 18 traffic control systems that exist within the Elk River city limits. The signal systems were fully inspected for condition of paint, lights, equipment, and controls. The paint ratings showed the need to begin a painting program to preserve the signal systems. Four signal systems were painted in 2011. We have reviewed the condition of the remaining systems and obtained quotations to have the following seven systems painted in 2012: ^ TH 169 and Main Street ^ TH 10 and Main Street ^ TH 10 and Jackson Avenue ^ TH 10 and Proctor Avenue ^ TH 10 and Upland Avenue (CR 44) ^ TH 10 and Joplin Street ^ TH 10 Off Ramp at TH 101/169 (MNDOT responsibility) Similar to the program established in 2011, all of the above listed signals are proposed to be painted in the brown and black color scheme. If this work is approved by the City Council, staff will work with OLS Restoration, Inc. and the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MNDOT) on a schedule for the work. We would prefer to schedule the work after MNDOT has completed their mill and overlay project on TH 169, which is scheduled to begin on or around June 8, 2012. FINANCIAL IMPACT The three quotations received for the work are summarized as follows: Aerial Painting, Inc. $62,670 OLS Restoration, Inc. $39,100 Pole Painting Plus $45,040 ~P0~14E8EQ BI A~U~ Staff recommends approval of the low quote submitted by OLS Restoration, Inc in the amount of $39,100.00. The city portion of the project will cost $34,000, and come from the Street Improvement Reserve Fund. MNDOT will reimburse the City of Elk River for the $5,100 costs to paint their system at the TH 10 off ramp located at TH 101/169. This project has been included in the Capital Improvement Plan to be completed in 2012 at a cost of $35,000. ATTACHMENTS None Action Motion by Second by Vote Follow Up rANE~EI i1' ~~~
