ACTION REQUESTED
Adopt the attached resolution acknowledging the tree donation from the Lions Club pursuant to
Minnesota State Statute X465.03. Statute requires that resolutions for donations are .adopted by a 2/3
majority vote.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
Parks and Recreation staff was contacted by the local Lions Club to donate up to 25 trees to the Parks.
and Recreation Department. The planting sites will be determined by staff in consultation with the Lions
Club. It was suggested at the recent Park Commission meeting that the Lions donate the trees to Trott
Brook Farms Park.
The tree species chosen are: Emerald Maple, Northern Acclaim Honey Locust, Robusta Poplar, and
American Linden. These are six inch bare root saplings. This tree program was started by the Lions Club
International President who challenged each local club to plant more trees in their community.
The tree donations were unanimously recommended at the April 11 Park and Recreation Commission
meeting. Harold Gramstad will be at the April 16 City Council meeting representing the Lions Club.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The Lions Club will donate up to 25 trees to the Elk River Parks and Recreation Department. The Club
will donate, plant, and maintain the trees for one year.

RESOLUTION ACKNOWLEDGING
CONTRIBUTIONS FROM THE LIONS CLUB TO THE
CITY OF ELK RIVER
WHEREAS, the City of Elk River is grateful to all civic groups, organizations, and
individuals for their contributions to the community; and
WHEREAS, the City of Elk River received up to 25-trees as a donation from the Lions
Club, including the planting and maintenance of the trees for one year, with the intent that
the trees will be planted in a park to be determined by staff and the Lions Club.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Ciry Council of the City of Elk River,
by at least atwo-thirds vote, to acknowledge the support and commend the Lions Club for
their donation.
Passed and adopted by the City Council of the City of Elk River this 16`'' day of Apri12012.
