3.8. SR 04-06-1998'~ity of iver **Item #3.8?* MEMORANDUM TO: FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: Mayor & City Council Phil Hals, Street/Park Superintendent April 6, 1998 Joint Equipment Purchase with Cities of Buffalo and Monticello In recent discussions with public works directors from Buffalo and Monticello it was suggested that our three cities consider purchasing a cold planer attachment for our skid loader. In past years we have rented a cold planer to grind out cracks and potholes prior to patching. This machine leaves straight sides and a smooth surface to patch against. It can also be used to do relief cuts along a curb line before an overlay, grind away concrete, or grind out stumps. Buffalo, Monticello, and Elk River have jointly owned a craclrfilling melter for four years and the shared use and ownership has worked very well. I could not justify purchasing this attachment for our department alone based on cost and hours of operation, but a three way venture would mean that our cost would be less than $4,000, and I request that the City Council authorize this purchase with the funds coming from the equipment reserve budget. 13065 Orono Parkway * P.O.
