Alarm Monitoring and Excessive False Alarms REVIEWED BY
ACTION REQUESTED
Council motion adopting the attached ordinance amending Section 50-91 and 50-96 of the city code
relating to alarm monitoring.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
In November 2008, the Council approved Sections 50-91 through 50-97 of the City Code. These sections
were enacted to deal with the issue of excessive false alarms.
The ordinance refers to excessive false alarms being tracked in a permityear, which has been found to be
confusing for staff and alarm permit holders. It is proposed to have the language changed to calendaryear,
thus making it easier for staff to accurately track false alarms and making it simpler for alarm permit
holders to keep track of any violations.
This also brings the language in line with Section 50-97 of the Code, which states that false fire alarms axe
tracked by the calendaryear.
