ACTION REQUESTED
Mayor and Council are asked to approve a contract with Garage Floor Coating of MN in the amount of
$20,056 for the public safety building floor repair project.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
The public safety building was built in 2002. Since that time the garage floor began to see several spots
start to chip and break free over the years. Currently the floor has several large areas exposed. After
meeting with a few contractors we determined that this was more than likely due to a moisture issue, or a
problem with the mix. They have recommended a complete redo of the floor versus the continual repairs
that have been done over the years. We have anticipated this project for several years in the Capital
Improvement Plan (CIP). The floor will be finished similar to the fire station which has been holding up
very well. The repair will come with a lifetime warranty from the contractor.
Staff obtained several quotes ranging from $20,056 to $22,300. Staff is recommending going with the
lowest quote from Garage Floor Coating of MN in the amount of $20,056 which includes a lifetime
warranty.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
We estimated $30,000 in the 2012 CIP and the lowest quote came in at $20,056 so the project will be
under budget by $9,944.

Justification ~
The coating on the floor in the police garage is peeling up in several places so ~Te would like to replace it with a quartz
floor similar to the floor in the fire garage that is still holding up very ~~ell.
The Public Safety building was built in 2002 and the traffic volume from staff and visitors has started to wear on the
carpet and tiles.
