Council authorization to hire entry level police officer Joseph Fixkus.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
Since the retirement of former Police Chief Jeff Beahen at the end of 2010, an unfilled police officer
vacancy has existed in the Police Department. Early in 2012, the Council gave authorization to
proceed with the selection process to fill this vacancy.
After an exhaustive process which screened over 300 applicants, Joseph Firkus of Zimmerman
emerged as the top candidate. Officer Fixkus cuxxendy works as a part-time police officer for the City
of Becker. He has successfully completed a background investigation and psychological and physical
exams.
The requested first date of employment is Monday, June 18, 2012. This hiring will bring sworn
department staff to 31 officers.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
This is a budgeted, entry level position. Starting wage per 2012 patrol contract is $44, 241.60 plus
benefits.
