SUBJECT: Director's Report
This report is a highlight of our Department's activities to inform the Commission on items related
to strategic planning, staff development, park operations and collaborations during the past month.
Bailey Point
We have set a tentative timeline fox closing on Bailey Point fox July.
City_Reorganization Plan
A Council work session on the City organizational structure was held on May 21. The changes to
the original organizational structure create a hybrid department and a movement of a few existing
activities to new areas. The hybrid department consists of public works and community
development with a director position. The other department structure changes include the Fire
Department, Finance Department and Building Safety. The direct changes to the Parks and
Recreation Department include the following:
• Transition Parks and Recreation Marketing Coordinator to Communications Coordinator
• Transition Planner/Park Planner full time to a Paxk Planner and visual communications
• Transition the Senior Centex Manager responsibilities under the Recreation Manager
position
Sue Kostanshek Retirement & Senior Center Services
Sue Kostanshek officially retired on June 7, 2012. The City had a daylong celebration of activities
on June 7 to recognize Sue's 27-years of service to the Ciry. Hundreds of citizens and staff attended
a celebration in the morning at the Senior Centex and then an Open House at the Activity Center.
City Council will recognize Sue at the upcoming June 18 meeting -when hex son comes to visit
from Mongolia.
As part of the City reorganization plan, the City will continue to provide quality services for the
seniors at the Activity Centex, while some of the responsibilities at the Senior Center at 350 Evans
will decrease. The Senior Centex division, including the part time employees, Annette Bonin and
Natalie Anderson, who axe now working full time temporarily have become under the responsibility
of the Recreation Manager Steve Benoit. The Recreation Division will now include the Senior
Centex staff and programs.
Houlton Property
Staff continues to work on ideas fox paxmexships and funding for the acquisition of this property.
Parks Maintenance Position Vacancy
We have narrowed the list of over 150-applications fox the Paxk Maintenance vacancy down to nine.
The nine will all be interviewed on June 13. Two of the nine applicants axe out of state and two are
current seasonal parks employees.
