ACTION REQUESTED
Adopt resolution acknowledging the scoreboard donation valued at $6,325 and assistance for the
installation at the Youth Athletic Complete (YAC) football field from the Elk River Youth Football
Association pursuant to Minnesota State Statute 5465.03. Statute requires that resolutions are adopted by
a 2/3 majority= vote.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
Staff was approached in ~-larch by- the Elk River Youth Football association to install a wireless football
scoreboard at the YAC (Youth Athletic Complex) football field. The Association has been saving for the
scoreboard for the past several years. Tlus will permit the Association and the city= to sponsor football
games at YAC. The price of the scoreboard with two wireless hand-held controllers is S6,325.00.
It is a LED football scoreboard size 4-feet high and 14-feet width. It will be installed 10-feet above the
ground with two 22-feet high poles donated by the Association that meet the required wind loads. The
poles are long enough so that a tzvo-feet high sign maj~ be installed in the future to identify- the football
field site. The proposed location of the scoreboard at the football field is attached. The wireless
controllers are hand held units and the city- will keep one of the two units purchased. The mounting and
installation requirements were reviewed and approved by= the city= engineer.
The Football association will donate the labor of an electrician to assist in the installation. The city= is
working with the Elk River Municipal Utilities to assist in the installation of the scoreboard.
The scoreboard can be used by the city and other sports groups interested ui using the football field.
This donation was discussed and recommended by the Parks and Recreation Commission at the July 11
meeting.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The purchase of the scoreboard does not require a financial contribution by the city. The city is assisting
in the installation of the scoreboard by propsiding labor and working with the Elk River Municipal
Utilities.
