DISCUSSION:
We had 1378 credit card payment transactions in May, compared to 1394 in April. The fee for
May should be $3,100.50. The decrease between April and May is largely due to the spring shut
off activity in April.
The United States Postal Service is mandating Intelligent Mail barcoding on mailing items
effective January 28, 2013, per a notice received in May. This compliance is necessary to still
achieve the mailing discount for our monthly bills. In contacting our software vendor, it is ready
to implement once we have all of the details worked out with the post office for the identification
numbers needed. We also need to work with an address verification service or purchase software
to "clean" the addresses in order to be in compliance with the intelligent barcoding. There will
be some changes and processes to implement and staff is researching options to work towards
this compliance.
We have had increased customer usage of their cell phones while in the lobby to make a payment
or to inquire about their account. We have implemented signage and procedures that instruct the
customer to refrain from cell phone use while transacting and interacting with staff at the front
counter, to protect their privacy and to allow the best customer service experience.
As a result of our customer service training concluding in March, a task group of staff has been
working on creating a Customer Expectations "5 point list" with supporting language that we can

hold ourselves accountable to the customers as providers of excellent customer service. The
items we have on our list are Respect, Innovation, Knowledge, Education, and Communication.
This is a work in progress,and will involve feedback from our customers for their expectations of
these items. Ultimately, we will be communicating this list to our customers as signage display
in our lobby, on our website, in our newsletters, etc.

DISCUSSION:
• Continue working on converting Meadowvale Rd. from 2400 volts to 7200 volts. Started
boring in new wire that needed to be placed for the job.
• Had two new house services.
• Finished changing out our overhead cutouts and fuses until this winter. Continue going
through checking padmount transformers and padmount switch gear making sure nothing
is leaking, the proper tags are in place, the map book matches the tags, and all the
warning stickers are on the outside.
• Working on changing out some of our pad mounted fused cabinets. We have to change
these out because they do not handle the fault current.
• Worked with Rike-Lee Electric to place new underground secondary and remove the
overhead secondary and a pole that was in the way for the downtown parking lot. Also
put wire in for the parking lot lights and service.
• Lightening hit a riser pole in the industrial park off of Co. Rd. 1. This caused the feeder
to open and when they tried to reenergize the feeder, they found a bad blade on the riser
pole by the West Sub.
• I was an instructor at the MMUA Underground School. MMUA had very good
attendance at the school. Chris Sumstad and Matt Schwartz also attended the school.
• Shane DeFayter put in his two week notice. His last day of work will be June 13. He will
be going to work for Xcel Energy.

• The Locating department had a total of 401 locate tickets for the month of May, three of
them being emergency tickets.
• In May, the Security Systems Department had a total of 100 phone contacts, six new
systems quoted, seven system sales made, six installs completed, 43 service calls made
and six personal visits.
• The Meter shop continues changing electric and water meters, meter reading, doing the
weekly and monthly substation checks and the monthly power bill. They are working on
installing the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system at the West
Substation site.
• The power plant staff did the monthly run of the generators. They also performed the
monthly web deflections on the generators. Everything was perfect. Steve has also been
busy helping out with the Feeder 23 conversion project.

• Worked with Economic Development and two property owners on possible efficiency
micro loans.
• Attended Project Conserve meetings. Working with the City of Elk River, Connexus, and
CenterPoint Energy on possible changes for phase IV of Project Conserve.
• Reviewing commercial interruptible and off-peak program participation.
• Worked with Customer Expectations committee on survey for residential and commercial
customers.
• Working with staff to develop marketing brochures for energy efficiency for commercial
and residential programs. These brochures will be one page flyers that highlight different
energy efficient technologies and where applicable local businesses that have
implemented the measures. The brochures will highlight lighting, HVAC systems, and
data centers to begin with. As time allows, additional equipment and services will be
added.
