Planner Point Ranking and Pay Grade
The City Council recently established the position of planner which was
immediately filled by Steve Wensman who has been interning with the city
since the beginning of the year. At the same time, the City Council directed
the Personnel Committee to determine the point ranking and resulting pay
grade for this position.
The Personnel Committee met recently to review this position, and because of
the new, somewhat diverse duties of this position, the committee was unable
to determine a point ranking based solely on the job description. The
committee suggested that Steve Wensman complete a job analysis
questionnaire to determine the point ranking. This process will be completed
in the next several weeks. After the committee has had an opportunity to
review the results, the recommended point ranking and retroactive pay will
be presented to the Council for approval. In the interim the committee
recommends that a pay increase to $12.50 per hour be approved retroactive
to May 27, 1998. When the final point ranking and pay grade are
determined, an additional retroactive pay increase may be approved as
appropriate.
Action Requested
The City Council is asked to act on the Personnel Committee's
recommendation to adopt an interim increase for the planner position
retroactive to May 27, 1998. The Council may approve an increase to $12.50
or may increase the rate as the Council deems appropriate.
