RE: 171sT AVENUE RAILROAD CROSSING
Dear Mr. Klaers:
Attached for the City Council's consideration is a resolution authorizing the petition of the
Commissioner of the Department of Transportation to issue an order approving the new
railroad crossing of the eastern area. This is just another step in the long process of
opening a new railroad crossing. As you are aware, we have been working with
Spencer Arndt, of the Burlington Northern Railroad, regarding the crossing layout and
configuration. Now that that process has proceeded far enough, we are submitting the
same information to MnlDOT Office of Railroad, requesting that they concur with the
opening of a railroad crossing at 171 sl Avenue.
Please put this on the next available City Council agenda for their consideration. If you
have any questions, please call.

A RESOLUTION FOR THE CITY OF ELK RIVER
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A PETITION OF THE
COMMISIONER OF THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR
ESTABLISHING A NEW RAILROAD GRADE CROSSING
OF THE BURLINGTON NORTHERN AND SANTA FE RAILROAD
AT 171sT AVE (MSA ROUTE 132)
IN ELK RIVER, MINNESOTA
WHEREAS the City of Elk River project SAP 204-132-02 is scheduled for construction
in late 1998, and continuing on into 1999; and
WHEREAS in order to proceed with the proposed construction, Elk River must
petition the Commissioner of the Department of Transportation to issue
an order approving the establishment of a new railroad grade crossing of
the main line track of the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railroad at
171 st Avenue (MSA Route 132);
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Elk River,
Minnesota:
1. That the Elk River City Council hereby authorizes the City Engineer to petition
the Commissioner of the Department of Transportation to issue an order
approving the establishment of a new railroad grade crossing on the main line
track of the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railroad at 171st Avenue (MSA
Route 132) in Elk River.
