Minnesota Municipal Utilities Association 2012 Annual Summer Conference Update
BACKGROUND:
In August, Minnesota Municipal Utilities Association (MMUA) held their annual summer
conference. This year ERMU had three representatives attend: Troy Adams, Mark Fuchs, and Al
Nadeau.
DISCUSSION:
This conference provides a great opportunity to gather lots of industry information not only
through the conference program, but also through interaction with the industry attendees. Some
of the major topics this year were:
• A new financing option through MMUA and usbancorp for state and local governments
• A MMUA produced video and companion guide promoting public power
• Update on EPA regulations
• The MN Conservation Improvement Program (CIP)
• The impact of hydraulic fracturing
• Municipal investment in transmission
• Electrical service territory developments
• Utility performance metrics
• State legislative developments
• Federal legislative developments
During this conference, MMUA holds a business meeting where member delegates vote on
issues and policies. Included in this meeting was the final approval for the 2013 member rates.
Also, Troy Adams was elected to the MMUA Board of Directors for a three year term.
