BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
At the July 16, 2012, City Council meeting, Council adopted a resolution acknowledging a scoreboard
donation of$6,325 from the Elk River Youth Football Association. This was the exact price of a wireless
football LED scoreboard that will permit the Football Association and the city to attract football games
and other tournaments at the Youth Athletic Complex (YAC). It was successfully installed in early
August with assistance by the city and Elk River Municipal Utilities.
The Football Association also donated the labor of an electrician to assist in the scoreboard installation.
This included the permit,wiring, and electrical boxes. Later,during the installation process,unexpected
additional costs came up of$1,400. Most of this includes additional costs for related concrete and
electrical work. The additional electrical work was caused by work needed to reduce the voltage from 480
volt to 120 volt. This was not originally known to be a requirement until the installation process began.
The initial estimate from Connexus Energy (YAC service area) to reduce the voltage from 480 volt to 120
volt was over $1,500. Parks Supervisor Rodney Schreifels was able to get the electric reduction work
completed for less at nearly$800 with the electrician who originally worked on the scoreboard.
It was stated in the original Council request for action that the purchase of the scoreboard would not
require a financial contribution by the city. The unexpected cost of$1,400 for this installation will come
from the Park Improvement Fund.
The intent of this item is to inform the council of the additional installation.
