MEMORANDUM
River
TO: Downtown Task Force Members
FROM: Jeremy Barnhart, Planning Manager
DATE: September 24, 2012
SUBJECT: September meeting information
On September 246, the public comment period is scheduled to close. At the meeting on
Monday, I expect to:
1. Review the comments received.
2. Discuss necessary changes to the document
3. Discuss formal approval ambassadors and process
1. As of today, I've received a handful of comments. Anticipating that some people want to
comment, but may have forgotten to do so, I've posted reminder notices of comment period
ending in the Star News, City website, and through the City's constant contact account and
Facebook pages.
Open House update
The open house on September 13`h was attended by about 20 non-task force
members over the course of the 4 hours. Not everyone signed in. Based on comments I
received, attendees heard about the open house through channel 12, the City website, City
Council meeting, the Star News, and the chamber of commerce newsletter.
Attendance at the open house wasn't as high as expected, but not shockingly so. In my
experience, high attendance at public meetings is often driven by an intense concern over a
project, plan or immediate change, and often gains steam through word of mouth. The plan
that we've created isn't immediate, and I think we've done well in describing this as a long
term strategy for strengthening the downtown.
2. Necessary changes to the document will be driven by the comments received, which we
will review on Monday.
3. The schedule moving forward. As we prepare the final draft for Council review, I
anticipate reviewing the final draft at the October meeting, and scheduling the final review in
November.
