Authorize the solicitation of quotes for the final abandoning of the River Line sewer main.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
As previously discussed with the City Council, staff has been working over the past two years to abandon
the River Line sewer main. With all adjacent properties now disconnected or with plans to be
disconnected in the next couple of weeks,we are prepared to secure a contractor who will perform the
final abandoning of the old main.
The project,as shown on the attached figure,will include the sand filling of the old sewer main and
manholes, removal of the existing manhole covers, and restoration of the disturbed areas. It is proposed
to abandon the pipe in place. It is not feasible to fully remove the sewer main without substantial
disturbance to the hillside and existing trees. We have included a completion date for the project of
December 1, 2012.
The quotations will be brought back to the Council for final approval.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Staff will solicit quotations from qualified contractors for the completion of the work. Included in the
2012 budget is $200,000 for the abandonment of the River Line,but staff expects the actual costs to be
less.
