Energy resources enable our most basic daily needs including producing food, fueling transportation, and powering our homes and businesses. The Energy City Commission would like to highlight local efforts and proclaim October as Energy Action Month in Elk River. It is Energy City's mission as a Commission to be a resource and educate residents about the importance of energy efficiency and conservation. They will uphold this mission during Energy Action Month by showing representation at the 10"'Anniversary of the Elk River Landfill Gas to Electric Facility, showcasing Energy City Demonstration Sites on Minnesota Renewable Energy Society's Solar Tour, holding a Business Education Event, conducting Energy City tours, reaching out to schools to offer energy education material, and organizing a city-wide energy conservation poster contest. The poster contest will encompass the city brand with the theme of"You Have the Power" and ask residents to display in their posters how they have the power to conserve energy. Posters will collect votes while posted on the Elk River Energy City Facebook page during the month of October. The poster with the most votes will be displayed around the community on the Big Belly Solar Garbage and Recycling Receptacles as well as in other media outlets.
