Houlton Property Update

No action requested. Update the City Council on the status of the Houlton Property.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
At the May 7,2012, City Council work session, Council consensus was for staff to review options and
partnerships for the possible acquisition of the Houlton property. During the past few months, staff has
been meeting with Bill Houlton,representing the Houlton property, Sarah Strommen from the MN Land
Trust, and Steve Hobbs from the Federal Conservation Fund.
Staff and Parks and Recreation Commission members toured the property on Wednesday, October 3.
Staff will discuss with City Council the various funding and partnership options that could be made
available.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
No direct financial obligation at this time, except for staff time to pursue funding sources for acquisition.
