On October 3, MMTG held a board meeting in which I participated by webinar/conference call. The board voted on dues, bylaws, and nominations for expiring board seats. These items are then passed on the MMTG membership for final approval. This will be done at the upcoming annual membership meeting on November 13 at the Minnesota Municipal Utilities Association offices in Plymouth, MN. The purchase offer on the 1639 Main Street property has been approved by the seller and the closing has been scheduled for October 15. Staff continues to work with Great River Energy on the security requirements needed to implement the SCADA system. I am still working on the approval of the proposed Sprint addition in leased water tower space. A significant amount of time has been spent this month on personnel issues. I would expect next month to see an increase in usage again as the customers bring their accounts current before the Cold Weather Rule is effective. The fee for September should be $3,674.25. This year Customer Service Week was October lm through October 7`s. It is a week every year that the staff providing customer service are rewarded and thanked for their dedicated service to our customers. Many times customer service is a thankless job and irritable people can negatively bring down a person's outlook or self-worth. To show our appreciation for a job well done, lunch was provided on Wednesday and small tokens of appreciation were distributed throughout the week. There has been work to do for 2012 year end, and next year's preparation for insurances. There are changes relating to health care reform that affect us and are being implemented such as 2012 W2 reporting for health insurance amounts, changes in the limit of the 2013 medical flexible spending amounts from an employer determined maximum (ERMU was at $3,000) to a federal defined $2,500 maximum, and the Summary of Benefit Coverage(SBC) report distribution requirement. We are preparing for these changes and will be working with our broker to make sure we are in compliance with the reform as policies continue to develop. I had two options to fix it: Send it to the manufacturer in California to repair it, but it could have taken up to two months to fix and we would have gotten the same motor back, or the second option was to buy a new motor and be able to get the well up and running within two weeks. The cost difference between the two options was only about $1,000 more to buy new because the shipping and handling was so expensive to California. I chose to spend the extra to buy a new motor and get the well back up and running as soon as possible. We have some wood x-arms that are in poor shape on a line and wanted to see if we could just replace the x-arms and not the poles. They found one pole that did not pass and any poles over 15 years are internally treated with copper napthenate solution to help prevent rot. We also had them test the wood structures at the power plant substation. • Continue rebuilding O'Day and O'Brian Avenue in Otsego. • Continue working on changing out fuse pads. • Removed a PMH-9 switchgear at HWY 169 and 5`h street. It was part of the Baldwin St. Rebuild project. • Sherburne County court house upgraded their service on the main building so when they had the scheduled outage to do that, we installed a fiberglass box pad and changed out the transformer since it was rusting out. • Art Gatchell will be retiring on October 121h. He has taken a job as a safety consultant for Xcel Energy on the CAP-X 2020 project. All the fiber and control wires have been terminated in all substations. We are going through some security measures through GRE to be able to use the SCADA. Meter Technicians continue with the meter reading, power bill and off-peak issues. • The power plant staff did the monthly run of the generators (no issues).
