Mayor and City Council to present retirement plaque to Elk River Library Branch Manager Mick Stoffers
and proclaim Wednesday,October 31,2012,as Mick Stoffers Day in the City of Elk River.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
Elk River library Branch Manager Mick Stoffers is retiring on October 31,2012, after 27-years of service
to the library and the Elk River community. She currently works for the Great River Regional library
and began working for the Elk River Library in September 1985.
Mick has overseen many changes during her 27-years at the library,not the least of which is the facility
itself. The old library located at 413 Proctor Avenue was expanded in 1995. Then in 2007, the new
library opened across the street from City Hall and the old library became the City of Elk River Activity
Center serving our local senior population. The new library,with 25-percent more shelving space,has
become one of the busiest libraries in the Great River Regional Library system with the second largest
circulation.
Mick's knowledge and relationships developed with many of Elk River's residents will be greatly missed
by the city and the community. She is recognized for increasing circulation and building a strong local
library program.
An open house for the public and staff to honor Mick Stoffers was held on October 10 at the library.
Members of the Friends of the library and staff plan to attend the Council Meeting when the retirement
plaque is presented to Mick.
We wish Mick to live lightly,but brightly during her retirement years.

PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Mick Stoffers has retired from the Great River Regional library after 27 years
of service to the community;and
WHEREAS, Mick has earned the respect and friendship of her peers,co-workers,and the
community;and
WHEREAS, for her dedicated service to the community, the Elk River City Council, Friends
of the library, fellow employees,and citizens of the community extend their sincere
appreciation to Mick and wish her a long,happy,and healthy retirement!
THEREFORE, I,John J. Dietz,Mayor of the City of Elk River,do hereby proclaim
Wednesday, October 31,2012, as MICK STOFFERS DAY,in recognition and appreciation
of the loyal and professional service provided by Mick.
