BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
At the August 13 meeting,the HRA approved including a housing intern in the 2013 budget. This intern
will work a 32-hour workweek and will be paid$12.00 an hour,with no benefits. The position is funded
fully from the HRA budget and will work solely on HRA projects,unless previously approved by the
HRA.
In September, staff met with the Leslie Nicols,Program Chair for the Business Department at the
Minnesota School of Businesses (MSB) to explore options in which MSB students may assist the city with
various projects. Since then,staff has worked with Jaci Dukowitz,a Human Resources Instructor from
MSB. She is working with a 300 level Human Resources Class to devise a job description and posting for
the housing intern,utilizing information provided to her by staff. All information completed by MSB will
be reviewed and approved by our staff prior to distribution.
Working on this project with MSB is at no cost,and provides a service to not only the city,but the
students taking the course at MSB. We have no obligation to use the information submitted by MSB.
This partnership should expedite the hiring process and help generate interest from the most qualified
candidates.

Overview
The project will be a compilation of several critical activities related to recruiting for an opening. All of
the activities will be based on the Request for Position from the City of Elk River for a Housing Intern.
Using the information provided on the attached RFP, students will complete:
1. Job Description Draft: 25 points (draft due on 10.30.2012)
a. Draft will be submitted for feedback&you'll have an opportunity to make corrections
prior to your final project.
2. Job Postings: 20 points(due on 11.06.2012)
a. Based on the job description and RFP,create TWO different job postings:
i. A more in-depth job posting/flyer to be used at local colleges
ii. An "ad" copy job posting that relays the essential information
