MEMORANDUM Mayor and City Council Patrick Klaers, City Administrattor November 17, 2003 YMCA Update The most recent meeting of the Northstar YMCA F()under's Committee was held on November 13, 2003 at Lions Park Center. Attached fbr your review are the agenda from the November 13, 2003 meeting and the minutes from tt~e October 9, 2003 meeting. Mayor K~linzing typically provides the monthly upda{e to the City Council on YMCA activities but she was not in attendance at this Noverhber 13, 2003 meeting, so I will be providing this update to the City Council. i The most newsworthy item that was discussed at thi4 meeting was the restructurin of the g Minneapolis and St. Paul YMCA organizations. The }estructuring retained t~vo different organizations with two CEO's but the Minneapolis ahd St. Paul YMCA's have now become one. operation. . . The restructuring resulted in some m{'!~dle management l'°bs and positions being eliminated as the new operation streamlines itself. This elimination of positions is not unlike what typically happens in the private industry ivhen two businesses consolidate NORTHSTAR FOUNDER'S CO1M MINUTES FOR MEETING Oi MEMBERS ATTENDiNG: Pat Klaers, Bill Helliwell, Joni Bergh, Nick Haidos, Connie Gandmd, Stewart Wilson, Wen Meeting was called to order by Chair Helliwell at 7:00 AM. Minutes for meeting of September 18, 2003 were approved. COMMITTEE REPORTS: 1) 2) 3) 4) Program Committee - Ken Ebel reported that t needed a teacher to be coordinator - no one cm approached and is considering participation. Communications Committee - Cedric Olson plesented Goals and Objectives for the Commumcations ~. At their next committee meeting, they will be looking for people to take on some of the objectives. I Strategic Planning Task Group - Ron Touche~ was to have met with Robie Wayne. Waiting , to hear the results of the.ir meeting. Finance Committees - Nick Haidos told us thai Tom McKinney will set up a bank account for us under the umbrella of the Northwest YMCa. It will be budgeted mostly for publicity - signs and registration for events where the Y c~m be promoted. BOARD CHAIR REPORT & DISCUSSION ITEMS: 1) 2) Events - Discuss Senior Activities and try to p~an another outing. Haunted Hayride at Camp ~itou. Joni was going to try to put out flyer~ or information cards at the schools during conferences. We will need to get approval frown the school district office to do this.
