In April 2010, the Utilities Commission authorized entering into "Phase 1" of a resource planning study with a coalition which includes Central Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (CMMPA) as a participant. In September 2010, the Utilities Commission authorized entering into "Phase 2" of a resource planning study which includes the release of a Request For Proposal (RFP). The RFP was issued on November 15, 2010. In May 2011, the Utilities Commission authorized entering into "Phase 2b" of the resource planning study which will include risk assessment of the proposals. In addition to working with the Resource Planning Coalition, staff continues to explore other power supply options. DISCUSSION: Staff and Commissioner Al Nadeau attended a Missouri River Energy Services (MRES) Area Meeting on October 25`h in Alexandria, MN. Because MRES has members in four states, Area Meetings are held in each state to make it easier for member representatives to attend. At this MN Area Meeting, there were 14 of the 61 member utilities represented by approximately 40 member representatives. This gave us a good opportunity to discuss issues and the agency with the local membership. The Area Meeting included updates on: Smart grid; Federal and State legislative, regulatory, and administrative issues; Member survey results, Power supply, Member distributive generation agreements, CAPX2020 updates, 2013 member rates, and 2013 budget. vowteto BY Reliable Public Page 1 of 1 'NATURE, Power Provider POWERED To S enve
