Dear Ladies and Gentlemen:
On May 20, 2002, the Elk River City Council discussed the recent vote of the Agricultural
Society to explore moving the Sherburne County Fair out of Elk River and into the City of
Becket. While the results of this vote were not a great surprise to the City Council, it was,
however, very disappointing. The Elk River City Council has consistently expressed its
strong support for the Sherburne County Fair remaining in our community (see attached
April 2, 1996 letter) and I would, again, like to reemphasize this support from the City
Council. The city has always desired to work with the Fair Board on issues of mutual
concern and the city continues to be committed to this cooperative relationship.
If there is something that the Fair Board needs from the city for this upcoming or future
Fairs, please feel free to contact me or city staff.

Dear Chair Edhng:
On March 19, 1996, the Sherburne County Board of Commissioners and the
Elk River City Council met in a joint session to discuss issues relating to both
bodies. During this meeting the future location of the Sherburne County Fair
was discussed. The County Board indicated that the City should make its
desires and intentions known to the Fairboard regarding the location of the
fair.
As Mayor of the City, I would hke to inform you that the City Council
strongly supports having the Sherburne County Fair remain in the City of
Elk River. A formal motion to this effect was unanimously approved by the
City Council at its March 25, 1996, meeting. Please convey this message to
the County Fairboard.
