Call Meeting To Order Pursuant to due call and notice thereof,the meeting of the Elk River Energy City Education Subcommittee was called to order at 3:05 p.m. 2. Consider Agenda No changes were made to the agenda. 3. Marketing Material Ideas It was discussed that a flier would be created to be sent out to churches,schools and businesses with simple energy efficiency ideas and contact information to learn more. 4. School Opportunities It was suggested that this topic be discussed at the ECC meeting. 5. Earth Day Event It was discussed that there isn't enough time this year to reach out to schools but this should be a goal for 2014. 6. Speaker List The Subcommittee discussed having a speaker every other month and that each commissioner be responsible for coordinating their assigned month's speaker. Staff will coordinate with the City's Cable Coordinator to have him scheduled every other month to tape and then make available for the website and cable access channel. The presentations will only be for twenty minutes with ten minutes for questions and answers. The presentation cannot be sales pitches but informative and directed towards the general public .so not too technical. 7. Hockey Day MN 2014 It was su:_ested that this topic be further discussed at the ECC meeting. Commissioner Setterholm mentioned using a Natural Gas car at the event. ty_}); r. l t.,L. 8. Tour Promotion It was suggested that this topic be discussed at the ECC meeting and each commissioner think of a group that could be contacted to go on a tour. . 9. Other Nothing was added. 10. Call Meeting To Order Pursuant to due call and notice thereof,the meeting of the Elk River Energy City Energy Design Subcommittee was called to order at 10:05 a.m. 2. Discussion The group revised the flier 'th the additions from the March 20,2013 Energy City Commission as well as sOm new ideas from the committee members such as check boxes and links to associations wi additional information. Once the flier has been finalized,it will be placed on the Energy City website and be given to the Building Division staff and Economic Development for distribution. The committee discussed the city purchasing an electric vehicle or golf cart as a demonstration with graphics on the side. Staff will discuss with the chair of the city's fleet committee. The committee also discussed the need to have a demonstration at Hockey Day MN such as solar panels on a concession stand,a solar cooker for hamburgers and hot dogs and LED lighting for the hockey rinks. The committee also questioned the Vision and if the Visionary Subcommittee wants the • vision to focus solely on energy or include water conservation and other sustainability practices. 3. Call Meeting To Order Pursuant to due call and notice thereof,the meeting of the Elk River Energy City Demonstration Criteria Subcommittee was called to order at 10:35 a.m. - 2. Consider Agenda No changes were made to the agenda. 3. Demonstration Project Site Form Subcommittee reviewed the draft forms and discussed adding a form for public buildings. Discussion also took place about having sections on the website for various technologies that would link to the sites displaying the technology as this would make it more user friendly. Discussion also took place about setting up a forum to residents informing them of the things the city is doing to save energy and how it leads to cost savings. This would help people better understand the investments for better technology as it will save money over time versus installing the cheapest systems which end up costing more but residents don't see that cost. 4. Schedule Next Meeting The next meeting will be held Wednesday,April 17,2013 at the Elk River City Hall in the Upper Town Conference Room at 10:30 a.m.or as soon as the regular ECC meeting is over. 5. Call Meeting To Order Pursuant to due call and notice thereof,the meeting of the Elk River Energy City Visionary Subcommittee was called to order at 8:35 a.rn. 2. Consider Agenda No changes were made to the agenda, 3. Strategic Planning The subcommittee developed a mission statement for the Energy City Commission. The mission statement is: "The evaluation,promotion and implementation of technologies and processes that provide energy value to the Elk River Community through collaborative efforts." The vision remained the same from the previous meeting which is: "Make Elk River the most energy responsible city in Minnesota." Goals for the next 1—3 years were discussed and included ideas such as: • Review of the micro loan program and energy efficiency portion create bonus points for energy efficiency • Partner with city staff and other commissions to increase energy efficient technologies (ie.Lights and solar at YAC) • Demonstration at Hockey Day MN (ie.Solar power for concessions) • Amend ordinance to not be so specific for commission members • Hydro Power at the dam • Waste Steam Project with GRE • Fuels cells—possible demonstration storing hydrogen • Storage for wind energy project • Work with schools on energy related curriculum • Promotion of activities and achievements with the media Main Goal: Big splash demonstration The goals will be reviewed on an annual basis and benchmarked. At the next meeting,the subcommittee will look at developing a work plan. The work plan will look at the big picture and what other communities are doing such as Vancouver's
