ACTION REQUESTED
Approve by motion the 2013 equipment purchase.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
Funds were budgeted and are available in the Equipment Replacement Fund to purchase the following
through the state contract pricing, except the hydraulically adjustable forks. The equipment was reviewed
in detail when the Fleet Committee met with the Council in 2012.
■ 1-ton F-450 truck from Nelson Auto Center for$31,957.89
■ Flatbed body for the F-450 from Towmaster Truck Equipment for$13,570.99.
■ Caterpillar 305ECR mini excavator through Zeigler for $69,614.10. This is a 2012 demo unit with
358 hours and is priced $5,875.99 less than a new 2013 model. It is under the state contract and
has two years of warranty remaining.
■ Grapple loader rake from Titan Machinery for $16,164.84.
■ Dymax hydraulically adjustable fork from Zeigler for$11,515.78. This is not under state contract
but will work with both of the Cat loaders.
■ 20 ft. Felling trailer from Scharber's Equipment for$5,788.25. This trailer will house various
traffic control devices purchased through our local suppliers. Trailer and supplies will not exceed
the budgeted$30,000.
With the new maintenance facility and the increased amount of time needed to clean the floors, the Fleet
Committee recommended a small sweeper to clean the large and small vehicle storage areas. Due to the
importance of this, staff has reprioritized the street purchases and will get fewer loader attachments to
fund the sweeper out of the 2013 equipment budget. The Committee recommends the purchase of an
MS20 Tennant sweeper from the Tennant Corporation for$29,974.68.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Total 2013 Streets Equipment Budget is $203,000. Actual total cost of above equipment including the
sweeper is $202,798.28. The replacement items will be auctioned off in the near future.
