Hot Topic(s) of the Month
The recent weather has affected the start of the Recreation Divisions outdoor spring
programs as well as youth athletic associations due to poor field conditions. Following is a
summary of the changes:
• Youth flag football had to be canceled for the season.
• Youth t-ball is starting a week late on Sunday,April 28th
• Adult Softball leagues is starting a week late beginning the week of April 29th
• Elk River High School had to switch their tournament being held April 26-28 from
the Orono Athletic Complex to the Youth Athletic Complex in that YAC drains
more effectively.
• The Elk River Youth Baseball and Northwest Diamonds Fast-pitch Softball Youth
Athletic Associations will be able to begin play beginning Monday,April 29th. This is
several weeks later than normal.
• The YAC Soccer/Football field will need to be closed until later this spring. This
affects the Three Rivers Youth Soccer Association.

SUBJECT: Activity Center Report
April Recap:
• April was volunteer recognition month. In accordance with this, a volunteer
recognition party was held for our volunteers at the Activity Center on April 25th.
During 2012 there were over 100 volunteers that contributed over 4,000 volunteer
hours to both the former Senior Center and the Activity Center.
• A Volunteer Expo sponsored by the Volunteer Bridge was scheduled to be held at
the Activity Center. Due to a snowstorm,the event was cancelled.
• Square dance lessons were held at Lions Park,and interest in this activity continues
to grow. A beginner's square dance event will be held in May.
• Trips included Mystic Lake Casino,which continues to be one of the most popular
trips,with many on a waiting list.

*Snow days on April 11th and 19th resulted in lower attendance at the Activity Center.Attendance exceeded
April 2012 by 112.
Upcoming May Events:
May is Older Americans month. Special events include the 22nd Annual Older Americans
Month Celebration held at River City Extreme in Monticello. This event is co-sponsored by
Elk River,Monticello and Coon Rapids Senior Centers. The 17th Annual Senior Day Out will
be held on May 8th. This is sponsored by SALT(Seniors and Law Enforcement Together)
and will be held at The Friendly Buffalo in Big Lake.
