SR 01-12-2004ELK RIVER ARENA 1000 SCHOOL STREET NW ELK RIVER, MN 55330 (763)635-1141 Fax (763) 635 - 1144 rczech~ci, elk-river.mn, us To: Arena Commission From: Rich Czech Date: December 30, 2003 Subject: Arena Update As you are aware, after the rough time getting ice in the Barn we had to go back into the floor to unclog a few of the pipes. The plugged pipes were causing an area not to freeze making this area slushy after a few hours of use. Our success in unclogging the pipes was short lived when once again the area in question would not freeze properly. We decided we would again try to remove the impurities that were causing the pipes to be clogged. On December 22nd we went back into the floor and cleaned out the pipes in question. Since then this area is freezing better, however it still doesn't freeze as fast as the rest of the rink. It does freeze fast enough so that it's not a safety issue for the skaters. As long as the pipes do not start to be plugged again the Barn should make it through the season. We will be taking precautionary measures to help keep the area frozen. The heating system to the Barn will be used sparingly, only during games and then only during times when the air temperature is cold enough that it doesn't affect the temperature of the ice sheet. During hours when the smaller skaters (Mini Mites and Mites) will be skating back-to-back, we will resurface after two hours instead of after every hour. We will be doing what ever we can to get the Barn's ice through the season. Our goal is to make the ice safe to skate on and we will do everything possible to achieve our goal. If you have any questions regarding any of the activities at the Arena, please call or e - mail me.
