Adopt by resolution contributions to the City of Elk River for the 2013 Archaeological Dig, History Day
and the Water Tower Restoration.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
Staff requested donations to help cover the expenses of the 2013 Archaeological Dig, History Day, and
the Elk River Water Tower Restoration.
The 2013 Archaeological Dig took place over the weekends of June 14-16 and June 21-23 at the Bailey
Point Nature Preserve thanks to a grant from the Minnesota Historical Society. The donations received
were used to rent a port-a-potty and to purchase sunscreen,bug spray, and food and beverages for staff
and volunteers.
Donations were also used to cover the expense of having the Living History Day Society conduct a
fashion show displaying 1860's dress during ArtSoup and History Day.
The Heritage Preservation Commission (HPC) is in the early stages of fundraising for the restoration of
the Elk River Water Tower,which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.
Donations were received to help in this effort. The HPC plans to apply for grant funding to help cover
the costs of restoration;however, the grants require matching funds. The donations received will be used
to meet the match requirement for grant applications.

RESOLUTION ACKNOWLEDGING
CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE
CITY OF ELK RIVER
WHEREAS, the City of Elk River is grateful to all civic groups, organizations, and
individuals for their contributions to the community; and
WHEREAS, the City of Elk River received donations from various individuals and
organizations as itemized on Exhibit A, attached hereto,with the intent it be
used by the Environmental Division for the 2013 Archaeological Dig, 2013
History Day, and the Elk River Water Tower Restoration; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Elk River
to acknowledge the support and commend the various individuals and organizations as
itemized on Exhibit A for their donations.
Passed and adopted by the City Council of the City of Elk River this 1st day of July, 2013.
