3.5. SR 08-03-1998_ity of Mower iver TO: FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: **Item #3.5?* MEMORANDUM Mayor & City Council Phil Hals, Street/Park Supt. August 3, 1998 Purchase of Mower and Snow Wing Post After assessing our mower hours at the mid point of the mowing season, I have a concern that we have all of our eggs in one basket, so to speak, with our Jacobsen front-mount mower. I would ask for Council approval to purchase a 12 foot wide, tow behind turf mower that would hook behind our 5200 John Deere tractor. This piece of equipment can be used to supplement our main hne mowing as well as serve as a back-up in case our main mower would break down. I received the two following quotations: Isanti County Equipment dehvery - in stock 12' progressive mower $ 7,500.00 sales tax 487.50 TOTAL $ 7,987.50 Sharber's Equipment delivery - two weeks 12' land pride mower $ 9,900.00 sales tax 643.50 TOTAL $10,543.50 Recommendation Staff recommends the purchase of the Progressive mower from Isanti County Equipment with funds to come from equipment reserves. Snow Wing Post An equipment evaluation revealed a damaged wing post on Unit 219. Our shop has repaired this mechanism several times, but it is our opinion that it cannot be repaired to withstand the rigors of another snow season. Staff has 13065 Orono Parkway · P.O. Box 490 · Elk River, MN 55330 · TDD & Phone: (612) 441-7420 · Fax: (612) 441-7425 priced replacement equipment for this unit. The equipment is from Fails Machine Company in Little Fails, Minnesota at a price of $2,000. Recommendation Staff recommends the purchase of a new wing post from Falls Machine Company with funds to come from equipment reserves. \\elkriver \sys\shrdoc\council\sdeqptp c.doc
