Background /Discussion
At the August 14, 2013 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting, a resident representing several of the
area apartments shared his concern over the removal of the playground and the squeaky swings at
Baldwin Park. The resident presented a plan they would like to see implemented at the park.
There are six apartment buildings in the area and the children miss the park and would like to see the
space made into a useable space again, not an empty lot.
Financial Impact
Below are estimates to show what the costs would be to provide the items the resident's desire. To
include all items on the plan presented, the estimated costs would be $47,900 - $55,700 depending on
what playground equipment is utilized. This estimate does not include contingency, administration,
engineering, seeding etc.

The volleyball court estimate includes excavation, drain tile, 9" pea gravel base for proper drainage, two
feet of sand, volleyball posts and net, boundary material to separate the sand and grass, boundary lines,
and concrete. The city has not constructed a proper volleyball court and this is the desired method to
insure the courts longevity.
