Staff is looking for direction on parking for the Great Northern Trail.
Background /Discussion
A resident stopped by City Hall to ask if the city was mowing the property to the east of hers for parking
for the Great Northern Trail. She indicated that she would prefer that the property not be used for
parking as it impacts her enjoyment of her property. Staff told her they would check into it. According
to the Parks Maintenance Supervisor, the city has not mowed that area in two years.
Several years ago, staff did try contacting the property owner to see if an agreement could be worked out
to park on the portion of property located under the power lines. No response was received to the
request.
Currently staff does not support public parking on this private residential property.
Staff received a second parking concern from a resident in the area. They believe there should be a
parking area for Woodland Trails Park off of County Road 33 and that cars should not be parking on
Watson Street. They stated it is hard to maneuver between all the cars parked on both sides of the street
and they block visibility.
Staff does not believe that the County would allow access to Woodland Trails Park from County Road 33
and as for the parking on Watson; the public can legally park on any city street unless otherwise posted.
The Tiller Corporation asked if the city would be interested in some of their property off of 221St for
some trail head parking as they see cars parked along the side of the street.
Financial Impact
No estimates have been worked on for parking areas.
