This issue was tabled at the February 19, 2003 ERMU meeting, because the City is also
purchasing a different phone system for City Hall. This commission desired input from
City staff about their proposed system. City staff will be present at our meeting.
Attached is my February 14, 2003 memo to this commission introducing this issue.

Subject: Phone System
The budget for the new administration building at City Hall contains a $70,000 item for a
new phone system and low voltage wiring for phones and computers. Our current phone
system has limited capability and has served us fairly well. The growth of personnel in
our organization along with increased need to the internet is challenging our current
system. The phone system at the plant has never been ideal, and with the addition of
another building, the system has become inadequate particularly with the increase in
calls. The phone system that will meet our needs is in the $30,000 range. A new system
may also afford us an opportunity to reduce our monthly operating costs.
The original plan was to purchase a phone system when we move into the new
administration building. Staff recommends authorization be given to purchase a phone
system now with the capabilities to move it to the new administration building in 14 to 16
months.
