Background/Discussion
In June, as part of the independence day celebration,The EDA and Sandhill Photography club
sponsored the second annual Powered by Nature Photography contest. Using photography,the goal was
to advance the missions of the club and EDA's marketing initiative. The People's Choice Award as voted
on by visitors to ArtSoup, and the Landmark Division of the contest as judged by a team of the Sandhill
Photography Club members.A fourth category was eliminated due to a lack of entries.
The winners this year are:
Don Deckert, 1st Place People Choice (as judged by guests of ArtSoup community arts festival.

Tracy Dunne, 1st Place Nature
Both have been invited to attend the EDA meeting.Jay Grammond, the head of the Sandhill
Photography Club,will be present to present the winners. The winners from this year's contest and last
year's contest will be featured at a Sandhill Photography club photo exhibit coming up on Nov. 4 through
Dec. 6 at the Sherburne County Government Center in Elk River.
Financial Impact
$150 for the purchase of Chamber Bucks.

An Albertville man has won two segments of the Powered by Nature Photography contest put on
by the Sandhill Photography Club.
Nall 1
Don Deckert of Albertville created this image, which was chosen as both the People's Choice
Award winner and the Landmark Division winner of the Powered by Nature Photography contest
put on by the Sandhill Photography Club.
Don Deckert's image of the feedmill in downtown Elk River captured the People's Choice
Award, as voted on by visitors to ArtSoup, and the Landmark Division of the contest as judged
by a team of photo club members.
Tracy Dunne was the winner of the Nature Division. The winners will be welcomed to an
upcoming Elk River Economic Development Authority meeting to be recognized and awarded
cash prizes from the EDA.

Tracy Dunne won the Nature Division of the Powered by Nature Photography contest. She and
Deckert will be asked to an Elk River Economic Development Commission meeting to receive a
cash prize for the contest linked to the Elk River Independence Day celebration at Lions Park.

All entries will be judged by representatives of the Sandhill Photography Club the week of June 9,
2013. Winners will be selected on the basis of composition, technical merit, originality and impact.
"By impact we mean what's your initial response to the photo," said Jay Grammond, the founder of
the Sandhill Photography Club.
All submissions will be displayed at Art Soup, Elk River's community arts festival sponsored by Elk
River Arts Alliance, in historic downtown Elk River on Saturday, June 15. A "People's Choice" voting
will take place at Art Soup.
The top 10 photos will be on display at Elk River's Fourth of July Celebration at Lions Park and the
winners in all categories, including the People's Choice award, will be announced at that time.
Winning photos will be on display in the community throughout the year.
