Approve by motion,the hiring of Jonathan Christie as a patrol officer for the Police Department.
Background/Discussion
As the Council is aware, Officer Brynell Stewart submitted her resignation and has completed her last day
of employment as of November 1, 2013. The Police Department has identified an internal replacement
candidate for this position.
Jonathan Christie, a current member of the ERPD reserve unit and veteran of the United States Marine
Corps was interviewed by the Police Department command staff and found to be an excellent candidate
for the vacant police officer position. Mr. Christie has successfully completed his law enforcement
training and is eligible to be licensed as a peace officer in the State of Minnesota. He has passed his pre-
employment screening tests and his anticipated first day of employment will be November 18, 2013.
Mr. Christie is a long-time resident of the Elk River area. He currently resides in the city with his wife
and has been a very active member of the reserve unit.
Financial Impact
This is a budgeted position,but the city will realize an overall savings due to the wage difference between
a veteran and starting officer.
