Background/Discussion The Energy City Commission is developing an action plan,with specific goals and objectives it hopes to achieve by 2024. During the development of this document,there has been some internal discussion regarding the mission of the Commission. The Council is asked to confirm this mission,which will then be used to evaluate and further develop the action plan. The mission as published in Section 2-353 of the city code is as follows: The energy city commission is established to promote the City of Elk River as a hub of energy technology, energy manufacturing, energy demonstrations, recycling, use ofgreen products and education. This mission has been incorporated into their marketing materials: The mission of the Energy City Commission is to provide a central location in the upper Midwest to demonstrate emerging and leading edge renewable energy and energy conservation technologies and to transfer that information to the general public. Goals under the Energy City Commission emphasi.Ze the importance of Elk River Energy City as an economic development tool. The Commission sees the potential to create high paying energy-related scientific research jobs at the companies that are attracted to the area because of Elk Rivers status as Energy City. The Energy City Commission is committed to educating the public about emerging technologies in energy conservation and sustainability. Energy City will continue to offer tours of the active demonstration sites which are already apart of Energy City, and is working to increase the number of sites and the number of people exposed to the sites.
