SUBJECT: Request for Contribution for 1999
Heritage Festival
Attached is a letter from the Heritage Festival Committee addressed
to Mayor Duitsman. The letter indicates that plans are being made
for a 1999 Heritage Festival. The Committee is requesting assistance
from the city of Elk River in the form of covering postage and
garbage pick-up costs. The city provided this assistance in the past.
I believe that the cost for postage will range from $300-$500. I do
not have a figure for the cost of garbage pick-up at this time.
CO UNCIL ACTION REQUESTED:
Consideration of request from Heritage Festival Committee to offer
assistance in the form of covering funds for postage and garbage
pick-up.

Dear Mayor Duitsman,
The Elk River Heritage Festival committee is again planning a community event
celebrating Elk River's heritage. We believe the Festival is an excellent way to get
acquainted with our new neighbors and businesses and bring awareness to the
community of Elk River's past, present and future. Next year's Festival is planned for
September 18 and 19, 1999.
We are grateful for your consideration and support of past Festivals and ask again for
your contribution of postage and garbage disposal costs. Your generosity with these
two areas help us attain success with the entire event.
Enclosed is a copy of a letter that will be mailed to all businesses in Elk River, asking
for contributions and help and also detailing what is under consideration for the
upcoming event. We will also be applying for various grants our event may be eligible
for. We are confident the 1999 Elk River Heritage Festival will be indicative of our
community pride and desire to preserve Elk River's identity.
Please consider our request with the Council. Thank you.
