OVERTIME FOR 1997-1998
INFO TION
In the spring of 1998, I was asked by Councilmember Dietz to compare overtime pay for
1997 and 1998 for sergeants. This was to determine how much would be saved by the
Sa~r~a:~dtuSfideOs'.mg less administrative overtime and adding an assistant chief to pick up their
SAAesrge.ant?~R,o. lf~e,..Mordal, and .Tyler did almost all administrative overtime prior to
s.~stam cz.m.e~ t~eahen being hired. Comparing those hours with theft pay since
s,slst..ant C~.ef Beahen~ st .arted working for .the po_lice department, we have seen a
.r, eaucno,n .o,I me,ir pa~, t.or_the pa, st nine months to be approximately $7,300.00 (seven
mousana, mree nunared dollars).
If we would add the last three (3) months of 1998 onto this figure, we would expect this
saving to be somewhere in the area of $9,700.00 (nine thousand, seven hundred dollars).
Ad .dm]g to this savings, Assistant Chief Beahen does not receive overtime pay. Since he
startea working for us in March, he has worked approximately 170 (one hundred seventy)
hours of additional hours over and above his normal hours. Some of these additional
hours were the result of Jeff working on our computer issues, so we can have our Local
Ar~e,a Netwo_rk (LAN) installed by November, 1998. If it weren't for Jeff, this task would
not t>e anywhere near completion at this point in time.
Jeff has completed his six (6) month orientation period and I must add that your
authorization to hire Jeff has helped significantly in dealing with many of our
administrative matters.
Overtime and computers are two of the main issues that have been dealt with because of
Jeff. In the months to come, I continue to expect the sergeants' overtime hours to be kept
at a minimum for administrative issues.
If you have any questions, in regards to this memo, please give me a call.
