Adopt by motion attached Resolution amending the meeting dates and times of the Heritage Preservation
Commission.
Background/Discussion
The Heritage Preservation Commission (HPC) is requesting a change in their meeting schedule from
monthly to quarterly (and as needed) meetings. Due to personal work schedules and limited agenda items
the Commission agreed a quarterly schedule is more appropriate.
Per Section 2-215. Meetings and rules of procedure.
The heritage preservation commission shall meet at least four times each calendar year, at
such time and place as the commission shall determine. Notice of the commission meetings shall be
communicated to the members,posted at city hall, and published in the city's official newspaper at
least three days prior to the meeting. Except as provided in this division, all commission meetings
shall be governed and operated pursuant to Robert's Rules of Order,Newly Revised (ninth edition)
and open to the public.

State law reference—Permissible powers for heritage preservation commission, Minn. Stats. §471.193, subd. 3.
HPC meetings will continue to be at 6:00 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month but only in January,
April,July and October. If additional meetings are required, the HPC will call a `Special Meeting' and
notice accordingly. The Commission is requesting the meeting schedule change effective January 16,
2014.

A Resolution of the City of Elk River Amending Resolution 07-88 Establishing
the Meeting Dates of the Heritage Preservation Commission
WHEREAS, the Elk River City Council has previously established an advisory committee
related to issues pertaining to the historical, archaeological, engineering, and cultural heritage
of the City of Elk River; and
WHEREAS, the Elk River City Council previously adopted Chapter 2,Division 2 of the
Elk River City Code, establishing the Heritage Preservation Commission; and
WHEREAS, Elk River City Code, Section 2-215, titled, "Meetings and rules of
procedure," calls for the City Council to establish by resolution the meeting dates,times, and
locations of the Heritage Preservation Commission.
WHEREAS, the Elk River City Council adopted Resolution 07-88 establishing the
Heritage Preservation Commission meetings for the second Tuesday of the month at 6:00
p.m. at City Hall.
WHEREAS, the Heritage Preservation Commission wishes to change meetings from
monthly to quarterly, and as needed,to better accommodate personal work schedules and to
more efficiently address a greater number of agenda items at each meeting.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Elk
River,Minnesota, as follows: by the City Council of the City of Elk River that effective
January 16, 2014, the Elk River Heritage Preservation Commission shall meet on the third
Thursday of the month, at 6:00 p.m. in the months of January,April,July and
October, at City Hall. If additional meetings are needed they will be called and
noticed as a`Special Meeting'.
