SUMMER PROGRAM GUIDE
Our final summer program guide is currently at the printer and will be delivered to the
schools at the end of May to go home with the students and then to Elk River residents the
first Wednesday in June. We removed any programs that were full at the time it went to
press and added many new programs and, once again, found ourselves with a 20 page
program guide. Summer is always our largest one, but had not exceeded 16 pages until this
year.
NEW PROGRAMS
We are offering several new programs this summer including:
• Daytime once a week Soccer League for ages 7-12
• Daytime once a week Flag Football League for grades 3-8
• SPARK- Sports,Play and Recreation for Kids! For ages 7-12
This program has curriculum that will be used and is geared towards all inclusive fun
and learning. It has many components including sports, games, nutrition, setting
physical activity goals, and more.
• Pro Excel Soccer Camp
• 4th of July Family Fun Run
• Introductory Lesson to Disc Golf for all ages
• Power Play for ages 7-12
They will play different sports each week.
• Fishing Programs
• Pee Wee Fitness for ages 4-6
This program will include yoga,kickboxing, and use a variety of fitness equipment.
• Workshops on Cardiovascular Health and Detoxification
FAMILY EVENTS
We have several activities geared towards families but our two largest events are June 4`h and
August 27`h from 6-8pm at Lions Park. These events will include a clown, a moonwalk,
pony rides, food and more.
PARTNERSHIPS
We are working with several organizations on our summer activities:
• Elk River Recreation will be sponsoring entertainment and a yoga class as a part of
Art Soup.
• The YMCA and Crow River Rental of Rogers are co-sponsoring our two family
events.
• We are working closely with the Boys and Girls Club on programming and use of
the park.
• The Safety Camp is a coordinated effort between all city departments.
• Our youth golf lessons are co-sponsored with Pinewood Golf Course.
• The Elk River Lions Club is co-sponsoring our Entertainment in the Park.
• The Pro Excel Soccer Camp is co-sponsored with TRSA.
• We are offering several pieces to the 4`h of July event sponsored by the Elk River
Area Chamber of Commerce.
• Our Drivers Ed classes are co-sponsored with Life Skills Driving School.
• Our LaCrosse Camps are co-sponsored by LaCrosse Unlimited.
• We have two camps that are co-sponsored with Skyhawks.
SUMMER EMPLOYMENT APPLICATIONS
We have received about 30 applications for employment this year. Many of them have
excellent skills and references. We will be interviewing for a couple of weeks and then be
making decisions by May 20`h or so.
